Avoiding Crisis

cutting the cord

A recent conversation with a friend  got me thinking…

Sometimes, in order to do what is best for oneself, you end up hurting those closest to  you.  You don’t mean to; it’s not intentional and it’s not malicious.  It just happens.   Sometimes, to ensure your own happiness, prosperity and growth you need to take risks and make decisions that may even seem atypical.  Those closest to you  may see your actions as selfish and rash. They may not agree with your decision, they might not understand why and they might not see the logic.  In fact, they may never “get” it.  Here’s the thing.  They don’t have to.  It is not their decision to make.  It is not their life to dictate.  It is your life and your decision. Sometimes, you have to do what is best for yourself.  Period.  No questions asked, no judgements passed.  It’s as simple as that.  Okay, maybe it’s not simple at all, maybe it’s one of the most challenging and difficult tasks you will ever have to face.  But you face it, you grow from it and it makes you a better person. A stronger person.

Now, if only those around you who are clouded by anger and what may seem like disappointment,  but is really fear produced by a complete loss of control, could come around to see the real you, the strong you, the brave and fearless you.  The you that you know and not the you that they think they know.  The you that you are and not the you that they want you to be.  And if they can’t see beyond their own fear and desperation, they will simply miss out on knowing the you that I know.

Sometimes, you just have to cut the cord.
